The Importance of a Well Formed Identity

As a little kid, my parents divorced and my mom remarried and her second husband adopted me. I was born Paul Andrew Richter but thought Andy Swanson didn't sound good so when I went to third grade, I changed it to Paul Swanson. But then we moved back to the old town and everyone's like, you're not Paul, you're Andy. And I was Andy at home and I was Paul at school, so it was kind of a similar thing. It was so obvious that I was just trying to take any control over my own identity, you know?
