Theramenes was accused of being a born traitor, always ready to shift his political allegiances with the expediencies of the moment. He denied that his politics had ever been inconsistent and insisted he favored a moderate policy. Critius ordered theramene's name to be struck from the roster of the three thousand, an act that would deny him his right to a trial.
