The Paradox of Christianity
C.S. Lewis: Trials permitted by God as intolerable because it's very real. We resist suffering like Jesus did at the Tomb of Lazarus, he says. You interpret your circumstances in light of what you know about God's character rather than interpreting God's character in light of your circumstances,. That's what James is all about, wisdom, which is our second heading. He adds that Christianity is a paradox because there is a joy there that seeks us precisely in and through the pain and rarely separate from it.
