Tension between generations is normal for any society. But the present anxiety of British parents seems altogether out of proportion. Young people are being treated as an alien category, wild beasts with whom we cannot communicate. The younger talked about as if they were an anarchist fifth column. The old react with consternation. Should they exact summer inventions or for appeasement?
