The Absence of Traditional Normative Ethics in Technology Ethics

This chapter explores the absence of traditional normative ethics in technology ethics and discusses the concept of applied ethics. It examines the tension between utilitarianism and Kantian ethics in relation to the ethics of technology, and explores alternative approaches such as social contract tradition and contractual reasoning. The chapter also discusses the value of different methods of technology ethics, including a more political conception that focuses on shaping society.
