i think we're inclined to think of sounds and signs as words, but it seems like he is making a distinction here. So i say, tree, you hear that sound, and then your mind apprehends what that sound is pointing to. And so, you know, on a tree, so the sound rings out, the sound points to something, and in the outside world, the light vibrates,. our senses perceive and pass on the signal.
