The Great Famine in Ireland
Both movements start to really get going or gain power at moments when there's a real need for a sense of identity in Turkey and Ireland. The conception of Irishness is something distinct, especially something that is Catholic or linguistically focused all these different versions really gets underway in the 19th century it really gains strength. Much of that comes from some terrible things that happen in Ireland under this time such as the great famine which puts tremendous pressure on people who live in Ireland.
