China Is a Great Powers Confrontation
I think this is really about a great powers confrontation. They see China as competition. If you ask countries in Africa or other developing nations, if they prefer Chinese or Western loans going back to Chinese finance lending again, they usually say Chinese loans. So the US would rather not have that competition. They'd rather not have to deal with a strong China. And so they create this media narrative about China and fund and incite these separatist movements in places like Tibet and Xinjiang and Taiwan. That way it can break China apart into smaller ethnic enclaves that are just fighting among themselves.
