Galileo's First Invention
In 1583, when Galileo was only 18 years old, he was attending mass at Pisa's Grand Cathedral. A huge oil lamp that hung down from the central nave of the church on a long wire caught his eye. He counted how many times his heart would beat between each swing of the lamp. This led him to devise a hypothesis about how pendulums could be used to measure small increments of time. The Wrangler had actually come up with something useful.
