The Origins of the Fourfoil
The shape is like a four leaf clover in its simplest form. Christy Anderson says that just by looking at the shape, you can see it has roots in Islamic or Moorish architecture. The quatrefoil made its way to Europe via the Silk Road. It was incorporated into Tracery, which is the stone framework for big stained glass windows.
