The Fed Balance Sheet and the Discount Window
The Fed will reserve from San Francisco, which I think is just a shameful, shameful people who owe us the nation apology. We have gotten no clarity whatsoever that the discount rate strategy is working for the banks that have people with deposits. Apollo's got a nice chart this morning looking at the Dallas survey on lending. And they argue that the credit crunch has already started. If you're advised by paychecks, smart guys are saying, listen, you can't do that anymore. That's not an atmosphere you want to lend.
