The Reward Prediction Error Hypothesis
The reward prediction error hypothesis is used in theories like reinforcement learning. It predicts that the first time you see a reward, dopamine release will be maximal. In this paper, researchers put it to the test by presenting mice with different rewards and seeing what happened. The mouse's responses were much slower than they would have been if there was no reward at all.
