melvourne: The americans tended to like the british better than the french. In his autobiography, thomas jefferson argued that these were all part of the same global movement for republicanism. Whether that's true or not is debatable. It remains to be seen. But i think this common republican heritages is a significant thread that ties them together and sets them at adds, sets them both against britain.
