What Happened in Punjab in the First World War?
From the nineteenth century, military communities were rewarded with grants in these irrigated canal colonies. Military service became a route not just to short term material gain, but to all the long term vantages that could come with possessing holding land. Some of those named in the registers go on to have quite prominent roles in some of the anti british, anti colonial movements which grow up punjab and across the world.
