In 19 13 and 19 14, excavations continued at the gravel pit where these first fossils had reportedly been recovered. There was a canine tooth, which had some features in common with ape teeth and others in common with modern human teeth. They also found a carved slab of bone that became known as the cricket bat because it was roughly shaped like one. So ranthropist dawsoni is what they named their find. And that means dawson's dawn man, which is not self congratulatory at all.
