All of us have some kind of identity, and I feel that in truth we know it much more early on than probably we suspect. We struggle to enforce it among our peers and among our family members for fear of being ostracized or looked poorly upon. It can feel pretty terrifying to stand up to all that history and tradition and say, that's not what I'm going to do. A lot of men and women between 40 and 50 who feel trapped in careers that they never wanted are now too deeply rooted in to change.
