Many people in the Russian elite resented that Russia was now going to become a second-rate regional power rather than a global superpower. The oligarchs don't own the assets that they own and can be taken away just like that if you displeases are or the president or whoever is the general secretary. I think at a certain point, that kind of animus against the West converged with this attempt to create this Russian mystique,. which then meant that it provided a certain kind of ideological understanding for them that somehow we were robbed. Of course, they were robbed, but they were robbed by themselves rather than, and of course, by the West as well.
