Historians and naval strategists have to place a lot of weight on the very few instances that it has occurred. The Falklands War in 1982 is the outstanding example. How useful are there's area denial weapons though? Even if they can't get too close to the Chinese coastline, how effective would they be at something like closing them like a straight to unfriendly nations or positioning themselves within the Indonesian archipelago?)
