The Importance of Respecting Teachers
In-person support of coaching seems to be such a critical element of effective PL. One change that we made to our PL program is that wherever it's possible and feasible, a first visit to teachers at a school involves us demonstrating in their classrooms rather than us observing them. The feedback from teachers has been really consistent that actually seeing that in action, seeing the strategies in action,. Seeing those demonstrations, and seeing them in their unique context has been particularly helpful.
