Is Assange Charged With a Crime?
The Obama administration wrestled with whether to charge Assange with some kind of crime related to the Manning leaks. A big part of the reason why they did not was that his actions in the Manning leak period were legally indistinguishable from the New York Times or other traditional news outlets, he says. There is no precedent for charging a publisher of information with a crime for that act; it would be a profound first amendment change.
