How to Contribute to Django

DjangoCon's sprints are the best way to get new people into contributing. I often think too like how could that be extended to regular Django meetups so here in Boston there has been and hopefully will be again a monthly meetup. So if there was I don't know every quarter or something some sort of way to do that that would help but I guess that's my question maybe if you what why do you think what stops people contributing?
