The Importance of Focusing on the Universe
For me, it was driven by wanting to work larger because the way that I was using paint felt like it was leading me towards working at a larger scale. And then I thought, well, what would it be like if I was just only working on 10 large scale paintings? That's going to feel very different. So my experiments now are in genuinely painting raw expressive things, and then stepping back and saying, okay, that's ugly. It's still sketchbook work, pieces of paper, things I'm going to put on the bonfire when I'm done, a lot of them. But that parameter is the parameters for me, and I'm still feeling my way towards it.
