The Impact of the Minimum Wage on Practice Finances
Two-thirds of GP partners who took part in our survey said that they would reduce their own take home pay this year. And nine in ten felt that the contract imposed on them for this financial year would make the financial situation at their practice worse. The minimum wage increased by 9.7% from April this year and practices need to find a significant block of extra cash to deliver it. Practice lost an estimated 40,000 pounds each on average last year because of unfunded pay rises.
