William Frederick Badeh set out on a thousand mile walk to the Gulf of Mexico in 1867. He traveled by rail from Indianapolis to Jeffersonville, where he stayed for two days before setting off again. The author describes Kentucky's virgin forest and caves as "the greatest extent of virgin forest I have ever seen"
