Why Did the Dutch System Lead to Modern Democracy?
The Dutch had distinctively antiquated political institutions that were characteristic of early modern, early, early democracy. Even with that, they had a very early democracy style of system of making decisions. The English did not have that opt out that for you as a parliamentary constituency from very, very early on. And so in the end, I think Dutch Republic was not a very large place.
