How Much Do Americans Spend on Mental Health Services?
American spending on mental health and substance abuse treatment is in the order of $280 billion a year. Of that, 85% is mental health related rather than substance abuse. About 10% of that is out of pocket, 20% is private insurance, Medicaid picks up about a quarter of it.
