Until very recently, as individuals, households and communities, humans everywhere had the capacity to build their own homes. And that was the definition of human culture is that it included our ways of doing that around here. But in recent generations we've moved to a situation where lay people can't do most of those things. They have to be done by accredited, licensed entities and individuals who use expensive equipment. We're going to see more examples of this kind of fragility of the system," he says.
