There are so many lairss that they don't have to happen while you're awakeo, they happen in dreams as well. It was a known fact in antiquity that dreams could be interpreted. And dream epiphany gets incorporated into medical practices in the cult to esclepius. The next day would tell their dream to one of asclepius priests who'd interpret it for them. That's an example of how medicine and science, magic and religion all overlap in antiquity.
