In retrospect, which is always a little bit easier, do you look back at certainly the pickling experience and maybe even the Benedetta experience and say, wow, I'm really glad that that didn't happen in retrospect? "I think there are probably other people whose relationship to writing is different than mine. It's not agony for them in the same way that it is. For me, it's a job," she says.
