The Best Way to Grow in Wisdom Is by Questioning and Answering
In the soliloquies, augustine tries to resolve the problem by having a dialectical conversation with himself and his own reason. What's interesting though is tn the dialogue, it doesn't work. The desire for us to be seen a certain way is actually an impediment to self knowledge. We'd rather have a good house of mirrors where we look really, really good in the rest of the world than to actually know what lies beyond the mirrors.
