Chalmers concludes that monogamy is immoral because sexual and romantic relationships are important human goods. David: Monogamy not only prevents people from having richer emotional sexual lives than they could outside of a monogamous framework, but it also forces people to constantly police each other's desire. "It introduces this element of doubt into every relationship," Chalmers says.
