How to Read a Case
In a common law system, you can't just go look up the law. The law is created piece by piece as individual courts weigh in on what they think the law is. Reading cases gives you a sense of the rhythms of legal thought and language. This intuitive sense of what matters comes in handy later when trying to fit your best arguments into a 20-page brief or three-hour exam.
