Learning Is Pleasurable, You Don't Need Gamification

If learning is pleasurable, you don't need to gamify it. Even if you enjoy learning, I can still understand the desire or the inclination to have some sort of gamification. The problem only comes when you stop seeing the metric as just a metric and start seeing it as the progress so you only optimize for that metric. You lose sight of the intrinsically meaningful goal that you should have at the end of learning. People see these posts of people who've been using SRS for a long time, like three plus years, they have these beautiful glowing heat maps, but they never see any progress in real life.
