Perception Comes From the Inside Out
The brain is continually generating predictions about the causes of its sensory signals. Perceptual content comes from the inside out and is just rained in by sensory data. We've also done a bunch of experiments trying to see whether the brain's expectations actually do shape what we experience. When people are expecting to see a face they see that face consciously, morequik ly than if it's unexpected.
