When Seleucis died, and Antiochus was called epiphanies succeeding to the kingdom, Jason, the brother of Onias, obtained the high priesthood by corruption. He at once shifted his countrymen over to the Greek way of life. The priests were no longer intent upon their service at the altar. Menelaus left his own brother, Lasimicus, as deputy in the high priesthood while Sostratis killed Adronicus for stealing gold vessels from a temple. When Tyacus learned that Filamator had become hostile to his government, he took measure for his own security.
