The Language of Purity Is a Metaphor, Right?
The language of purity, it's a metaphor. When we think of sinfulness or a moral behavior as impurity, we don't literally think that there is some part of us,. some physical substance that has been stained or blemished. It's not like if we take, I don't know, drop a glass of distilled water. We put some drops of ink into it and say, oh, the water is no longer pure? That's literal purity. The language of purity reflects a metaphor of pollution or contamination, but it's as a metaphor, it's not literally true, right? And I think that that's really, really important.
