You Can't Let People Have the Floor as Well
There are lots of ways to not give the floor over to someone. You can use intonation to stop people taking over the conversation by making your voice go up a little bit at the end, so that it makes it clear that you still have something more to say. It's not just a a silent pause where the other person may take i o their turn tak also holding your gesture up in the gesture's face. And even things like a filled pause when you say something like um or ah or, you know, well, i think maybe that can be a way of saying, i'm still searching for the words that i want to try to get out, but i have words
