The Future of Machine Learning
Google Photos in 2015 released a system that used convolutional neural networks to automatically group your photos together into albums and then give each album a caption. A web developer named Jackie Alcini who, you know, being a programmer, being an early adopter kind of guy, fired up his Google Photos and checked it out. And to his horror, they, Google Photos had created an album of photographs of just selfies of himself and his friend and labeled them gorillas. That's an example where even a seemingly kind of straightforward application of machine learning can go very wrong, very quickly.
