The Secret Life of Rebecca Danvers
The film opens in Monte Carlo, where a shy unnamed woman played by Joan Fontaine meets Max. He's a good looking, debonair, aristocratic man and very confident. We later find out that Max is a widower whose late wife drowned in the sea near Mandalay. The housekeeper makes it clear from the beginning that no one will ever replace her former mistress Rebecca.
