Propaganda and the Ideology of Democracy

There's this romantic notion of democracy, that government is accountable and controlled by its citizens. But as abbie emphasized in her talk, people tend to be rationally ignorant. And propaganda directs us back toward that pre enlightenment idea that citizens are servants of the state. So we should serve the state because the state's working for us.
