RNA Vaccines and the Inflammatory Responses That They Induce
The paper was published in Nature Immunology in March of this year. The first author is Tatinen, and the last author is Ira Melman. They looked at some of the inflammatory responses that happened when human cells were stimulated with RNA lipid nanoparticles as are done in the mRNA vaccines. And they showed that the human cells made IL-1, particularly IL-1 beta. mouse cells made a little bit more IL-1 alpha compared to IL-1beta. When that response was blocked, the mice actually made a better adaptive immune response to the vaccine elicited antigen.
