Orpheus - The Orphic Tradition
Orphic hymns are just one part of the orphic tradition, a part that is probably dated quite late. We have gold tablets from grave sites that relate primarily to instructions on how to handle one's journey through the underworld. Orpheus was mentioned at least as far back as the sixth century b c e by a poet named ibicus. Even do we know that he existed? No. Do we think he could have? i would say probably not.
