Large language models do have a lot of the same syntactic structure that you find in human language. Could it be that given that large language models are not brainlike they come up with a solution that is just a multiply realizable solution relative to how brains come up with that solution even if structures map onto each other? i'm really hopeful that those edges and those differences are exactly where we'll generate new predictions about humans, he says. He's prepared to spend five years looking for evidence of variable binding binding yada  and hopefully find a good story why the neural net doesn't work.
