The Backspace Problem in Typewriters
Backspace used to mean a space that goes backwards. That's why on the Mac, it's called delete. There was over a century of people trying to figure out how to make erasing happen in the world of paper and ink which is actually really complicated. Later, there were typewriters that had sort of like a white out that was integrated, you know, tippex,. A lot of the first century of typing was re-typing, right?
