Self-Explanation Prompts Cause Split Attention
The self-explanation prompt was a significant moderator but in the negative direction. We didn't expect to find that and so we were very surprised by that. But there is some research suggests that these might be causing split attention. In general, it was surprising but I could understand why in certain studies that might deter or reduce learning if the self-ex Explanation prompts are designed in a way that they might be distracting rather than helpful for students.
