Is Jazz a Work Unto Itself?

i'm curious what your intuition is at one point of organization and with which properties does a series of sounds cohere into this thing that we call music. i don't think some of these analytical approaches are necessarily or even particularly helpful when it comes to appreciating music but for yourself and strong songs listeners they may be intriguing to grapple with. the difficulty is to specify the work without conflating one work with another since tokening the melody is not required  many works share the same harmonic structure as a result some argue that the performance is itself the work. I've transcribed tons of improvised jazz solos and it's not actually a difficult question for me each solo is a composition
