Lenin saw very clearly that they could not continue the war with the Axis powers. They didn't have an army. They needed time to address the economic crisis at home. Extendingly, Olive Branch to Berlin puts Russia right on a collision course with the Western Allies. But Lenin is uncompromising. He gets hold of the pre-war treaties that Russia had drawn up with Britain and France. Here is proof, he says, that the war was always an imperialist adventure.
