The Importance of Communion With God
The great divorce is built upon that whole insight. It's as much as trying to take more and more of God's nature and giving up on our selfish nature. Some people turn their backs on God simply because they worship at the altar of the I-self, not of the God-self. That might be helpful for some people that don't come from that background.
