The Society for Affecting the Abolition of the Slave Trade
The Society for Affecting the Abolition of the Slave Trade was formed on May 22, 1787. The members had faith that eliminating the trade in human beings would be a first step toward abolishing slavery itself and totally. If the first supply of Africans was cut off, slave owners would have to treat their slaves better to keep them healthy enough to work. Then they believed slavery would end. As we're going to see that was not the case in the United States where slavery continued,. and only came to an end after a very brutal war.
