One pattern is that as people get wealthier, they're less inclined to commit a lot of kinds of violent crime. Doesn't that pattern fit better with like a rational or instrumental theory of violence than a morally motivated theory? Yeah. It might be true that if we reduce the costs and increase the benefits, violence goes up. But it's also true that if you sort of look at the overall cost benefit, it's really negative in a lot of cases.
